A remote 7,000 m summit between Everest and Makalu
Overview
Baruntse stands in the wild Hongu valley, far from the Everest crowds. The South-East Ridge has steep ice sections on fixed ropes and summit views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Ama Dablam.
Fly to Lukla and cross the Zatrwa La into the forested Hinku valley, then climb to Khare under Mera Peak. Cross the Mera La into the Hongu valley and reach base camp at 5,400 m. Climb via Camp 1 (6,100 m) and Camp 2 (6,420 m), then return the same way.
Experienced climbers who have been to 6,000–7,000 m and can handle steep ice. The approach is remote with basic lodges, and rescue takes longer than in the Khumbu.
Why book with us: Experienced climbing Sherpas, a Spanish-speaking guide on the approach, and a gradual approach for good acclimatisation.
Remote, very high terrain. For fit and experienced trekkers.
