Kathmandu / Tibet tour

Day1

Arrival in Kathmandu transfer to hotel. Evening welcome dinner and program briefing.

Day2

The first half of the day will be spent visiting the old Royal Palace of Kathmandu and the Swoyambhunath stupa, Around the central Durbar (Palace) Square are the old Royal palace, the entrance to which is guarded by the monkey god Hanuman and numerous other temples and statues. Among the more natable ones is the Kumari temple. The Kumari, or the living goddess, is a young girl who lives in the building knows as the Kumari chowk, right besides Kathmandu's Durbar square. The Kumari is not a born godness and nor does she remain one all her life. She is usually chosen from a caste of Newari goldsmith when she is about five years old. Drive west from the Kathmandu durbar square to Swoymbunath stupa.This Bhuddist stupa ,known also as the monkey temple due to the hordes of monkeys that inhabit the hills is one of the worlds most famous buddist chaityabelived to be 2000 years old. It is built atop a 77-meter high hillock on the western rim of the valley. The chaitya, which forms the main structure, is made of a solid hemisphere of brick and earth supporting a lofty cponical spire capped by a pinnacle of gilded copper. Pinted on the four-sided base of the spire are the all-seeing eyes of the buddha. In the afternoon, drive southheast of the city of patan.The patan Dubar square is very beautifun and artistic. Most of the buildings of the squre were built in the 17th century. The old Royal palace and the taleju temple stand on the left side of the squre and a host of othere temples stand on the right . The Krisha Temple is the most famous and one of the best known temples in nepal, built in 1657. The characteristic feature of the temple is that nails or wood have been used and the contruction is entirely stones. From the Krishna temple, the golden temple is only two minutes walk. It is a very famous Bihar(monastery)for the buddhists of the valley and contains a very active congregation of devotees. The large rectangular monastery built in the 12th century has a gold plated roof tooping a mangificent structure. The life of the buddha is illustrated in freize in front of the main shrine. The temple of the thousand buddha or the Mahabuddha Temple is in shikhara style and is modeled after the original Mahabuddha temple at bodhagaya in India. Originally constructed in the 14th century, the terra-cota temple was severly damaged in the 1934 earthquake and later rebult. Each of the bricks in the building contains and the image of the Buddha. Inside ,there is a shrine didicated to Maya Devi , the mother of Buddha.

Day3

Pasupatinath is the most famous Hindu temple and is located on the bank of the bagmati river, 5Km from kathmandu. The deity is belived to be the patron deity of the Kingdom of the nepal. While the temple complex including the inner century is open to the Hindus only, there are many other things to see which are interesting to non Hindus . After Pasupatinath for the drive to the Buddhanath. This is fantastic Buddhist Stupa at a places known as Buddha, Skm east of Kathandu. The largest sperical stupa is held in great veneration both by Lama's of Nepal and Tibet and also by hindus.

Day4

After the breakfast flight from kathmandu to Lhasa. It is an hours flight to Lhasa over the highest Himalayan range of the world upon arrival at Lhas transfer and check into your hotel. Full day for rest and acclimatization.

Day5

After breakest visit the potala palace. The present shape of the potala palace was built by the 5th Dalai Lama between 1645-1693. This architecture wonder of the world exists on the red hill and rise more than 300 metre from the valley floor and is visible for moles from all directions. It was the winter place og Dalai Lama.After lunch,visit jokhang temple and Barkhor Bazar. The Jokhang is situated in the central part of the old section of Lhasa. It was built in7th century. With successive extentions, it has now became a gigantic architectural complex which houses various wives of king Srongtsen Gampo including the nepalese queen brikuti. The Bazaar of Barkhor is the downtowen of Lhasa city with Jokhang temple as it's center from one can enjoy hustle and bustle of everyday Tibetan lifestyle. Overnight in hotel.

Day6

After breakfast visit Drepung Monastrey. It is the biggest monastrey in the Tibet which once housed some ten thousand monks.situated on the foothill to norhtern direction of lhasa city, it was built in 1416 by jamyang choge, a disciple of Tsong khapa. After lunch,visit Sera Monastery. It is hte second biggest Monastery in Tibet. It used to house more 8000 monks. It was founded in 1419. The best thing to see here is the live debate talking place among the competing monks from the different monastery in Tibet.Overnight in hotel.

Day7

Full day pictureresque drive of 261 KM. to Gyante(3950 m) crossing over the Tibet lifeline river Brahma Putra (Yarlung sangpo) plus Karola(5010m),Kambala (4794m)ans the holy Yamdroke Lake. Overnight hotelGyantse.

Day8

Morning sightseeing to the Kumban stupa and phalkor Monastery in Gyantse. Kumbum Literally means 100000 images including pantings. it was built in 1440 with strongly flavored Newari architectural style from Nepal. Palkhar monastery was founded in 1418. It is a complex of three different sects;Gelkupa, Skyapa and Bhoten. There more than 100 chapels worth visiting. After lunch , drive 90 Km. to Xigastse(3900m) and visit Panchan Lama's Tashilhumpu monastery. It is the seat of Panchan Lama, founded in 1447 by Gedum drup, the frist in Xigatse proper, which once housed almost 4000 monks. The main chapel-Maitreya chapel posses a giant 26 meter high sculpture of maitreya Buddha (the future Buddha). Overnight in hotel Xigates.

Day9

Scenic drive back to Lhasa(380 Km.)via the northern route along the Brahmaputra river. Overnight in hotel.

Day10

Full-day excursion to Ganden (4240m), the paradise of Tushita and the abode of Jampa, the future buddha. It is the site where Tsong khapa (1357-1419) first meditated in order to choose a place for the main Monastery of the sect. After sightseeing in Ganden, drive back to Lhasa.

Day11

Early morning drive to Gonggar Airport for departure flight to kathmandu. Up on arrivel at kathmandu, transfer to hotel.

Day12

Bhaktapur, also known as Bhadgaun is shaped like of conch.It is a medieval city designed in the 19th century by it's founder king Ananda Malla.Having an area of 139 squre km, it is situated at 1331 m, from the sea leve and 13 Km. east of Nepal. The cities craftsman built in decorated houses, make pottery and adorn tempels. From the very beginning this city has Attaracted foreignness because of it's medieval charm and the ancients way of life still on-spoilt to this day. The main Durbar Square holding the place of 55 windows,the golden gate.

That opens through to the Taleju temple, the national art gallery having a good collection. Of thangka paintings are of immense attraction. the ancients Royal palace is remarlkabale.

And excellent temple of 18th century architecture. The Nyatapole temple is Nepal's tallest five-tiered temple that stand not far from the Durbar square. The pottery market is very near to the Nyatapol temple.The Akash Vhairav temple the Dattatraya shrine, Pujarinath.

With excellent wood work, the famous peacock windows located south of Dattatraya temple,

The Bramayane mandir, are all of equal importance and example of fine art and culture of Bhaktapure.

Nagarkot located about 14 Km. north east from Bhaktapur and at an elevation of 1838 meters from sea level is one of the best place for a countryside tour with mountains views . The road to Nagarkot grants on with view of terraced farmland and pine forests. It is the only place from where one can view of panorama of the entire eastern and central Himayas views of including Everest, Numbor, cho-oyu, Nuptse, lhotse, Makalu and Manasalu, hole Annapurna and Lantang, Ganesh Himal, Dorjelhakpa, Shisapagma in Tibetain Himalaya range and Machhapuchre(Fish tail) to the west. Overnight in Nagarkot.

Day13

The goddess Devi or Bhagwati is wordhipped in Nepal to forms the benevolent form, like the divine mother and the terrible form like a demon. The godddess Dakshinkali is located 25 Km form Kathmandu on the southern edge of the valley and epitomized the image of goddess kali. The temple is at the bottom of the steep hill with a small stream flowing close by. Devotes make animal sacrifice every Tuesday and Saturday to quench the thirst of blood Thristy Kali. Continue to the city of kritipur that was founded by Shivadev in the 11th century. When king prithivi Narayan Shah was attemting to conquer kathmandu valley he met stiff resistant at this strategic point and only after suffering heavy loses of man and material was the king able to subdued Kritipur. This town is located on a ridge 5 Km Southwest of Kathmandu. The town also gives excellent view of Himalayan peaks especially during the autumn mouth. The Baghbhairav, the uma Maheshower, Laxmi Narayan and the recently constructed monastery are some of the other places to be seen here.

Day14

Departure transfer to the Kathmandu international Airport to connect your onward flight .
